Child Safety at AGMS — Public Commitment

Our commitment to children and young people

The Australian Guild of Music and Speech (AGMS) is committed to providing environments in which children and young people are safe, respected, listened to and supported.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse, grooming, exploitation, discrimination or conduct that places a child at unreasonable risk of harm. Child safety and wellbeing are responsibilities shared by our Board, staff, examiners, contractors and volunteers.

AGMS is committed to the Queensland Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle of cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. We also apply this framework as a minimum child-safety standard across our Australian activities, subject to the specific laws that apply in each State and Territory.

‍

Children have the right to

• feel safe and be treated with dignity and respect;

• be heard and taken seriously;

• know what to expect when taking part in an AGMS examination, event or program;

• say if something makes them uncomfortable or worried;

• have their privacy respected;

• participate without discrimination and receive reasonable support for their individual needs;

• have their culture, identity, family and background respected; and

• make a complaint or raise a concern without being disadvantaged for doing so.

‍

How to raise a child-safety concern

A child, parent or carer, teacher, examiner, staff member or any other person can raise a concern about child safety at AGMS. Concerns may relate to an examination, examiner, staff member, contractor, volunteer, venue, event, online interaction, recorded examination or any other AGMS activity.

You can use the Tell AGMS About a Safety Concern or contact AGMS at safe@agms.edu.au. You may ask for support when making a report. Reports will be treated sensitively and only shared where reasonably necessary to protect a child, investigate the concern or meet a legal obligation.
