Everyone acting for AGMS must uphold this Code whenever they interact with, make decisions affecting, or handle information about a child.
I will
- place the safety and wellbeing of children ahead of convenience or reputation;
- treat every child with dignity, respect, fairness and patience;
- listen to children and take concerns seriously;
- use clear, age-appropriate and professional communication;
- keep interactions observable and accountable wherever reasonably practicable;
- use official AGMS communication channels for AGMS business;
- respect personal, cultural, disability and communication needs;
- ask permission before any necessary physical contact, except where urgent action is required for safety;
- report any child-safety concern, disclosure, boundary breach or suspected misconduct promptly;
- follow lawful screening, training, privacy and recordkeeping requirements; and
- cooperate with reasonable child-safety reviews and investigations.
I will not
- engage in sexual, romantic, exploitative or grooming behaviour with a child;
- make sexualised, humiliating, threatening, discriminatory or degrading comments;
- use unnecessary physical contact or corporal punishment;
- communicate secretly with a child or ask a child to keep AGMS-related interactions secret;
- use a personal social-media account to establish private contact with a child because of an AGMS relationship;
- give inappropriate personal gifts, money, alcohol, drugs or other items to a child;
- photograph, film, download, copy, retain or share a child’s image or assessment recording for personal purposes;
- access recorded examinations except for an authorised AGMS purpose;
- retaliate against a person for raising a concern or complaint;
- ignore suspected abuse, unsafe conduct or a breach of this Code; or
- place myself in an avoidable situation with a child that is inconsistent with the Examiner Child Safety Protocol.
Breaches
A breach may result in removal from duties, suspension of access, investigation, termination of engagement, notification to a regulator, screening authority or law-enforcement agency, or another proportionate response. Child safety takes priority over the continuation of an examination or engagement.
